BC Junior Speech Provincials

Dear Participants, Judges, Volunteers, and Coaches,

As you will all know by now, BC Schools have been closed indefinitely. As such, to allow debate and public speaking to continue in Canada, organizations across the country are turning to an online alternative.

To pilot this endeavour, the DSABC would like to host an online Junior Public Speaking Provincials via the Zoom Video Communications Platform.

Event Information:
Host: ONLINE

  • TBD

Payments must be made online by the registration deadline.

Registration Stages:

  • Open until Monday, March 30th

    • Names of Teams and Judges

    • Schools may register up to 6 students - with a waitlist available for additional participants

    • Register HERE

Modifications for Online Format

  1. The event schedule will be revised down to fit in a single day

  2. There will only be one round of both Interpretive Reading and Persuasive Speaking; however, each room will be judged by 5 adjudicators.

  3. We have removed the Debate portion of the tournament entirely as it is difficult to facilitate online and also difficult for us to monitor (but we are working with a number of different softwares to bring this in the future!)

Tournament Categories:

Students in grades 6-9 are eligible to compete at this event.

Students compete in 3 public speaking categories:

  • Impromptu Speaking

  • Persuasive Speaking

  • Interpretive Reading or Solo Acting

    • Given the difficulties associated with hosting a tournament online the solo acting category is being dissolved.

    • However, as some of you may have already begun preparing, for this year only we will permit readings from any published literature including plays, poems, films, etc.

See full description of categories here
